This is taking months. Did he in fact take the money in advance?
I appreciate Bill stepping in. The members gotta know that we are aware what is going on. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

Guys, thanks for the support. I had to make some sort of move. I did not want to inflame the situation but instead, bring about some answers. Randel does not strike me as being a hothead or anything so lets hope he posts with a reasonable explanation other then "any day now" or some bullshit like that ... I am sure he will post several paragraphs though ... Lets sit back and see what unfolds fellas ....... I am sure we will see posts from the others like "hey, yes, where ARE my boards, I paid you weeks ago ..... etc etc ......"
Chat more,
Bill |

I almost posted a message myself several days ago, and then canned it. I'm glad Bill stepped in. Since my name is loosely associated with this project, I sure don't my reputation besmirched, which is why I almost stepped forward. But then I figured someone else was bound to comment on the crazy schedule.
I remember back in June when he indicated the turnaround time would be "over the weekend" and everyone marveled at his promptness.
When I ran MAP, I never listed anything until it was actually in my hands. Sometimes the suspense killed me keeping quiet, but I sure didn't want anyone else sharing in the suspense! That's a great way to tick people off, and I think Randaleem has succeeded in that avenue.
I regret having gotten involved with the guy. In case anyone is wondering, several months ago I told him to simply forget about any royalties, etc., since I never wanted him to contact me again.

Supposedly I am still in for one or two of these boards! Given that it has been since like what, June or May or something since I naively ordered them...
Randal doesn't strike me as a hothead, or even as a criminal. He strikes me as a loser, a good talker who seems to know his shit, based on traceable knowledge which he doesn't seem to know people know already.
It's almost sad, except that he's dragging people around.
I am going to go ahead and continue my order, whenever it is fulfilled (I honestly could care less about it), so I can post stuff in his thread when I get the board, assuming he figures out how to get a shipment to the UK.
I am wondering if this guy isn't like the biggest bullshit artist on the forums here. Heavy on the bullshit, at least. _________________ Garret: It's so retro.

Back when he was trying to get me to send him the Klee files, he was offering to manufacture the boards on his CNC for a "cheaper" price (though I didn't even know how much the boards would have cost through Express PCB at the time, much less him).
I can't imagine there is a board house anywhere that would provide such exceedingly crappy service as to have things "in transit" for months at a time. I can only imagine the snafu may have something to do with his homemade board fabrication. I thought to ask him what board house it was, so they could be avoided at all costs. If it is a board house, that information would be more helpful than anything he's posted yet, IMO. _________________ My Site |

His promise/announcement way back was that at the time of delivery of the QFG boards he would bring his new company website online and then a whole bunch of products would be announced. The URL is? I forgot it. Last time I checked there was nothing there.
I don´t think we should beat the crap out of him. We´ve already established the fact that whatever he is up to isn´t a part of the "official electro-music.com projects." I guess that will do for now. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

Mattias, being on the inside only shows you how hard it is to make judgements. Don't say anything in a post you want to be applied to you. I know I've been a devils advocate for Mr. Lee. We don't actually have many problem members, other than spammers which are simply and mindlessly dispatched with the morning coffee. All this said, the man needs a good dose of rope. I mean, he was advertising these QFG boards last bloody May or something. I am a fan of the good cop bad cop way of discipline, give the deviant a choice anyway.
But I have maintained that the folks who frequent the forums will see it for themselves, there is nothing we need to do. I'm looking forward to my board, you will all get to see close up pictures of it. I'll comment publicly as I try to build it. He has done nothing like the QC work that our best members have done, conscientiously, with the full support of the community. He's acted mostly in the dark, except for bogus "licensing talks" but he hasn't even bothered to drop any in process works along the way. Chrissakes. I could etch some stuff in my kitchen faster than this.
Anyway, like I was saying, we should say nothing now. I think it is cathartic to moan here, but I am waiting to watch the regulars catch on. I don't think we have to do much to help, unless Randall posts one Big Ass Porky of a Lie and we catch him. But should that happen, I imagine there are many sharper minds who will take first blood.
Don't get me wrong. My idealist mind wants Randal to fit in. My pragmatic mind already knows he's a disaster, and out of his league here. Which is why I await his board I ordered with some satisfaction. We'll see. _________________ Garret: It's so retro.

Yes 3 months is an incredible delay. I recently had a small run of boards (25) made of my yusynth Fixed Filter Bank pcb and it took exactly 15 days between the moment I placed the order and the moment I received them from the PCB shop. _________________ Yves |

don't get me wrong. i totaly agree (in the past i personally decided to take money not before the boards arrived and at least one got populated and tested). the community will be wise enough to judge his practices anyway... and still no answer to bill's note. _________________

I tried to keep track of that, Randal has not been logged into the forum since Bill posted his message. Which does not mean that he did not visit of course, as that can be done anonymously. But he might just have a flu ... |

Jan, I am glad you have a positive attitude as well. He could just be busy fixing the problems with the boards he just had delivered, or maybe he fixed his CNC machine or something. Keep it positive. _________________ Garret: It's so retro.

Yes, that is the wise thing to do. The point of my post was to let Randal speak and give a more detailed version of what was really going on. We can give him the benefit of the doubt, maybe he is sick. I hope not. Maybe a death in the family.
What if say he really was not being honest? How do we handle someone like that? You can't ban him from the forum, he will just sign up under another alias and try again.
Not sure. Thoughts anyone?

Oh, let us just pay out the rope for now. We can decide what to do with the hanging body later.
He's not subtle enough to come online again without one of us noticing, his IP, location, vicinity, associates, etc are noted.
Like I said earlier, let's stay positive. _________________ Garret: It's so retro.

My bets are on, if he has ordered them, is that he's ordered them from some place in China (sorry you Chinese folks out there- but unfortunately China always immediately springs to mind) at a "rock bottom" price. If Randal is this "shit hot" product designer that he cracks himself up to be, and he is still trying to be the next Paia, I bet he's ordered from the cheapest source to reap the highest profit margins (remember folks- he wa soriginally suggesting that you could make some cash?). That's my suggestion anyway. It could also be, if that is true, that whoever he's ordered from may have 'disappeared'. I really hope not.
Did he take orders for the keyboards too?

Well, thats an interesting point. I personally have not done any business with any of the bargain Chinese board houses. I have seen them advertised many times in the electronics magazines lately. For example Circuit Cellar Magazine. It is always quite possible to place an order and the next day, GONE .... I suppose we could postulate several scenarios given the amount of smarts in this group. I am just going to just wait and see.

Thanks. Just doing what I think is right as a co-moderator and as a decent human.

This is quite ugly. Having been involved with customer service for more years than I care to quote, one of the top rules is "do not leave your customer in the dark." If one is having issues, one should let the group know what those issues are. Perhaps Randal's vendor is not keeping him informed and he is just paroting what he's hearing from them. Lack of experience with customer service, I'm guessing.
One of the things I've learned doing business with the Chinese, they can and will pull the plug on supplying product for whatever reason they feel. I hope Randal didn't piss anyone at his supplier off (imagine that?!) because he may have been cut off and now he has to scramble to recover.
I just can't think of too many scenarios that would take a simple board like this, this long to do!
Perhaps if he does not offer a reply in the next day, I could offer my services to deal with his vendor? I do not have a board in this buy, but this activity drags the whole forum down. |

Whatever you, don't be the middle man. Such a position can leave nasty scars .. erm, just my opinion of course
Does anyone know if people have made payments to Randal? |

Scramble or no scramble, if he fucks up, he still has to honour his debts back to all those who purchased.
I noticed that although he has posted back again, he's still avoiding Bill's request for further info. _________________ ACHTUNG!

Facts please we need to know if anyone did pay him for something.
Maybe that question should be asked as a follow up to Bill's? Something like "victims please report" I mean. |

That´s how he works. He tends to build up a batch of very helpful posts and then answer the difficult questions. I dunno if he uses some kind of quota system.
As for if he has accepted payment for the persistently incoming PCBs, I have no idea but isn´t it highly likely that someone would soon come forth and complain about the missing PCBs?
As for policies, how much should we police this and how to go about it? This is not just about Randal and his new Paia, but all projects involving goods like PCBs and parts and stuff? Suggestions? _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

Well, I posted it as an open question, but I do feel that the "forum" does have a responsibility here. Not as in that we are responsible for Randal's acts, but that we are responsible for trying to resolve conflicts between people participating here.
When people have made payments to Randal that would make the situation much more serious than when no one actually sent money. And so I think we have to find out about that, but I do not know what would be the best way to do so. |
