Just back from that concert opening the Elektra fest here. A mix feeling of happiness and deception. First i have my truck load of subs bass. man those where really loud, to the point where every kick drum sounds the same and you just can't ear anything else. oohh there's a bassline in there..can't ear it..melodies,harmonies..nope that's boring stuff for a concert..let's give them a huge amount of subs..boooooooommmmmmm.. can you feel it..ya i think it was 63.5 hz and the last one was more around 67 hz..god their brilliant. The whole concert also sounded like a huge playlist: songs where chained one after the other with no intros or ending. It was'nt all that bad some moment where pretty intense and i caught myself dancing. I also had my little groupie moment standing just in front of the duo. front of house was the best sounding place.

outside, Claude ask me if i wanted to come back saturday..he has promo tickets for Front-242..i'll go..only if you find the sub processor and destroy it

Hi.
Are u serious?
I'll explain myself:
On the 29/April they had a concert here in Rome, in a club which is quite famous in the eternal city: Brancaleone.
I was impressed by this fact-- they "imposed" a low volume.
And the club (which is actually a social centre in the italian manner) has a massive Sound System...

So u could here people chatting (it was so full that u couldn't breathe), and below this mass of sonic objects "in the distance".
Still have to understand it.
ciao

I experienced overpowering bass drums seeing these guys in philadelphia. It was very hard to decipher bass lines (or mid-range really) from the consistent pulse. I am thinking this might have been more of a venue issue though...a glance at the house mixing area were A LOT of compressors.

the place where they played is an ancient factory and i think apart from some draping covering the walls we where in a concrete rectangle.

I can't help but think that if the show i saw is more or less the same for the entire tour and that what i heard was'nt an exception, that AE are a bit condenscending with their audience. Why are they doing a set like this? is it promoters only buying a 'make it loud and boomy' kinda show? Would they be touring with a set that reflects the stuff you hear on their cd? Are they really thinking that 'anyway this shit is what people like'? Maybe their just having a bang playing loud for a few months but i doubt it. I think they missed an opportunity to show what their about these days.

Or maybe what's on a CD is quite beyond what they can achieve in a live performance?
Mah, I can tell u that they started the concert with really interesting textures (improv I believe, cause never heard before), but after 1/2 hour the majority of the "croud" strted whistling-- maybe that's another issue --
So Dj time arrived, but great when they started pumpin' on the laptop again!!! In the end I had the sensation of megalow pulses too, now that u made me think about it, but only in the 2nd part-- which has been "old classics"...
And the crowd went BANG! Shocked
Anyway I had a good time Smile

Every internet discussion on this tour I´ve seen so far has been so devided, often so harshly, that I´m starting to suspect it must be a great work of art!
