I installed Reaper on my XP netbook, but miniAudicle doesn't see the ports. How do I make this work? Sorry, I'm sure this has been posted before, but I'm lost. Thanks.

A "stock" version of the Mini doesn't support ASIO, I think there was a experimental ASIO-Mini around on the forum but I'm not sure whether that one is still up to date for 1.2.1.2

You might try ASIO4ALL, Les:

http://www.asio4all.com/

I use it with Mixcraft and it works very well.

Well, I think I got the drivers, they came with Reaper. But ChucK won't see the ports. Can I use the command line version of ChucK?

Gary; Sorry; no amount of ASIO drivers, wrappers and emulations is going to help for a binary that only supports WX.

Les, yes, grab the ASIO one that's in one of the sticky posts on this forum. The plain version doesn't support ASIO for reasons unknown.

Yep, sorry, I didn't see your response to Les until after I posted, Kas.

OK, I downloaded the last one from the ASIO sticky thread, but it complains about the Jack server not running. I don't want to run Jack, I am running Reaper. What's the deal there?

It asks for Jack? On Windows? That's wrong. I'd say that was a bug but the ASIO functionality is kinda bolted on.

Are other ASIO applications functioning correctly in this way? I never had any issue with the ASIO version, actually I found it works better than the WX one as it supports multiple in and outputs while the play one only goes up to stereo.

Yes, well I should mention that I installed jackdmp which is jack for windows. The problem though was that it complained of needing libraries sor something and would not run. Maybe I should uninstall jackdmp?

well, that worked. now ChucK runs on the command line. Now i get an error opening up the keyboard. It says error cannot bind keyboard to port 8888. Also when I ran ChucK it tried to access the internet and I told McAffee to block it. Does this executable attempt to write the keyboard to port 8888?

Port 8888 is used by ChucK to communicate between the VM and the commands for stuff like "chuck + foo.ck bar.ck". These calls are to localhost, not to the outside internet. However; your firewall may not realise this.

I don't think this indicates a virus and I'd permit this and see whether the problem goes away. If your firewall can filter per program (and not just per port) there shouldn't be a issue.

In the past there may have been a security matter; other ChucKists could have connected to your VM and used
Code:
Std.system( bad_system_destroying_command);

This is why we have the "caution to the wind" flag now; these days you need to explicitly enable ChucK to run system commands.

OK, well I ran the virus checker and there were none. Now ChucK runs properly, however there is no sound. I unblocked the port 8888 thing, so that's not it. I ran iTunes and it made sound. Any experience with this?

Also nothing shows up on the routing list of Reaper when I run ChucK, so it looks like ChucK is not outputting audio anywhere...

OK, I got it working. Under Reaper Preferences I noticed there was no ASIO driver, so I downloaded and installed ASIO4ALL which Gary suggested, and now ChucK outputs audio! yay! Thanks Gary.

Next I think I need to figure out how to run Reaper and how to make ChucK send its output to ASIO, it's all very confusing right now but I'll figure it out. Any hints?

ASIOFORALL doesn't provide virtual ports for routing, unfortunately. Don't use that, use the Reroute to send audio from chuck, or any other program, to Reaper. Then route reaper out to the regular sound card.

When connecting something to a reroute port you must re route to to the output to hear it. You are almost there.
