I've not made any songs/tunes for a long time.
what software would you use and how, i mean would you sample everything into a sequencer or just use MIDI with a sequencer or a combination of MIDI and samples.
thanks
Andy. |

| Any MIDI sequencer would do... I personaly use Cubase 4 and sequence everything in MIDI until the most of the track is done... A6 is good for that since you have 16 separate voices and you can output them separetly... If you have external effect processor that's all you need to produce a track, basicaly... I record each separate track after I'm done with sequencing and than mix it down in Cubase... I would recomend Logic if you are Mac based, however... |

I am PC based. I have Cubase 3 SE but its buggy and I couldn't get on with it. Also can anyone recommend any PC MIDI/sound interfaces, I have USB 2 and firewire, and also PCI express.
thanks. |

I highly recommend picking up a copy of Computer Music magazine at your local bookstore. They typically feature articles on the latest software and hardware interfaces, plus, they give away a free DVD-ROM with lots of freeware music-making software one it every single month, including some sequencers and DAWs.
The DVD is cumulative, so most of the software they have given away in the past is on every month's DVD, so you don't need a subscription to get it all (Although a subscription is nice -- I had one for about 2 years before I got too busy to do much music lately).

I'm not affiliated in any way; just thought the magazine was really helpful with stuff like the question you are asking. _________________ Shameless plug: http://www.soundcloud.com/rh2y
