I am hoping this question has an easy answer, but I've looked through the manual and still can't find it.

When I make a sound with a long release, inevitably I run out of voices quickly and then hitting new notes no longer makes sound, until one of the voices becomes freed up. What I want it to do is steal the oldest note.

So I figured "Voice Steal" was the function I wanted, so sure enough I went into Global -> KBD -> VSteal and set it to ON.

As far as I can tell this had absolutely no effect. I still can't play a sound with a long release more than a couple seconds before it stops dead.

Help is much appreciated! Forgive me if this turns out to be a really stupid question.

-Jon

seems the A6 voice stealing is not setup like we are used to. the on and off DOES work, just not like you and I wish it did. Mine steals from other voices fine unless I shut that off, at which point you just run out and get no sounds. This is especially annoying with the sustain pedal - I can steal voice from under my left fingers THAT I AM HOLDING DOWN PHYSICALLY, and spend them all on my right fingers. annoying yes, but I geuss we just have to live with it

Your problem actually seems to be the opposite of mine.

You seem to have TOO much stealing going on.

I can't get ANY stealing to happen. I want stealing. You say yours steals when you switch voice stealing to ON...but mine does not. My Andromeda seems to run out of voices no matter what.

I'm not using a sustain pedal either...just a long release time. Every other synth I've ever had old or new, has simply stolen the voice of the oldest note...usually by default. Sometimes as one of a few options.

EXCEPT (and I have to verify this...) I think there are some preset patches (that I didn't program myself) that function the way I want...so there must be some parameter somewhere that I haven't looked that controls this sort of thing...?

I wonder if you are actually running into retriggering issues. In your case, the RESET parameter (on the Dynamics page of the envelopes) needs to be NORMAL. ANALOG envelopes will steal but will restart the attack from the position the envelope is at instead of starting from the beginning. LEGATO will just continue with the envelope as is -- it's meant more for mono patches than poly ones. Same with RE-ASSIGN which is basically a modified form of LEGATO.

Thanks---that sounds promising. I'll try that as soon as I can get home to my keyboard.

Much appreciated.

That completely fixed it.

Seems I didn't check the manual well enough. Stupid me.

It least it was something easy.

Thanks again!

Cool, glad the solution ended up being something simple. Smile
