Hi Gang,

Sigh...it seems that we have another lapse of ethics in our midst. Slo indicated that he had PCB artwork for my ADSR that he would be willing to share. I had suggested that he ask Tim Servo for permission before posting, since Magic Smoke has the rights to that circuit, among the others in the 21st Century book. Tim graciously gave permission, along with the usual caveats.

Lo and behold, when I looked at the artwork just now, I see that it is mine, intact, from several years ago. (Actually, he added my name to it, which I assume is the "slight modification.") I was under the impression he had created something new to share with the EM gang, but all he is sharing is something I spent many hours on myself; I design my PCBs by hand with some archaic software.

How do you feel about this, Tim? I don't really mind my artwork for this project being shared, but I resent someone implying they had a hand in it when in fact I did it all myself.

What about the rest of you?

Sigh...

Thomas Henry

I dunno, it doesn´t make sense that he shares something you made.
You could pass it on to Tim instead as part of whatever deal you guys have?

A lot of things don't make sense to me anymore.

I sure would like to know what in this guy's mind the "modifications" are he thinks he's made. This is even worse than a bloke who changes a 10k resistor to 11k in a noncritical portion of circuit containing one-hundred resistors and thinking he has modified it.

Again, sigh...let's hope other users shame him a bit. I come to EM to contribute my ideas not give lessons.

Sorry guys, I'm a bit confused. Are we talking about Tim here or Slo?

We've always maintained that EM is a place for learning too- but if you don't wish to teach anything, that's fine. It's wonderful just to have you here at all Thomas Very Happy

Unless you have given permission for someone to add their name, then no, the person who has added their name has no rights to do so. I have a similar story with an LP I recorded 10 years back, where the guy who I sampled from (we lived together for a while, and I had full permission), now seems to think that he has intellectual property rights on all my hard work (apart from sampling guitar drones, all the real work was done by me).

Not, Tim, of course, who is my trusted publisher. If I didn't make it clear, I was vexed that Slo offered my PCB artwork to EM as though he had had something to do with its design. In short, that is my artwork that he posted. While Tim and I may have given him some sort of permission to post something, I don't think either one of us imagined he would just put up my work unchanged.

Whew! I'm not doing very well on the communication front, am I! What I meant was, I don't want to give lessons in ethics, but would rather spend my time posting electronic designs.

i don't believe this was done by slo with bad intension, just thoughtless.

internet is a curious thing. it sometimes changes our behavior and way of communication, we probably do and say things that we won't in real live (and some are more vulnerable than others to this metamorphosis). nevertheless internet IS real, and a lot of people just forget this and don't think of the consequences of their actions and sayings.

there are places out there where it is much more worse than at e-m, actually e-m is an oasis for me (you won't believe the rough tone in a german forum!).

Do you want me to take it down? That is reasonable isn´t it.. at least for now..?

I imagined slo had made a PCB design himself and it was that one he would post. Posting your PCB is something completely different.

Okay, he's come clean now, so let's leave it up as a service to other builders.

Maybe I'm sensitive, but I didn't like the impression he originally gave, intentional or otherwise. I guess I thought he was going to post something he designed, but now that he's given the true provenance, I don't really mind (as long as Tim Servo agrees).

I just wish Slo had said at the outset that his only contribution was finding my artwork, not actually designing anything new.

Anyway, leave it for others to use.

Whoops! I was also under the impression that this was a layout that Slo had made up. Actually, he sent me the PDF, and I was the one who added Thomas' name, as I insisted that was one of the conditions for posting a layout! I suppose that the fact that he couldn't edit the layout to add text should have sent up a red flag, but I spaced out and didn't put two and two together. Basically, I didn't recognize the layout as Thomas' so I apologize for not realizing that.

Maybe I'll just go back to something simple like designing parts for $100,000 sports cars. Wink

I see that Randal has thrown in his unique "randalization" techniques (I don't understand a word he's on about there Laughing) but I'm not surprised that he's decided to chime in too Rolling Eyes Twisted Evil
