nm1 data noise when turning knobs on some patches??? |
 |
|
I just recently took out my nm1 and was playing with some patches and noticed that on some drum&bass bass synth type patches, when i turned the master volume knob(and a few other, on the nm itself), there was a very audible clicky type sound. This happens when no sound is playing, but only happens after i first play a key. If i load the patch and turn the volume knob before playing a key, it does not happen.
The nm does not have anything connected to it, just power and headphones. I tried plugging it in to different outlets(with nothing else plugged in) around the house and got the same results. I faintly remember having this problem in the past, but i could have sworn it had to do with midi/laptop/ soundcard power outlet issues(but this is happening with nothing hooked up!).
This strange data-type noise only happens on some patches.
Could someone tell me what could be causing this?
It doesn't happen when i turn the knob until after a key is pressed for the first time after loading the patch(but it happens after sound has stopped).
Is it a patch setting or system setting causing this?
I tried searching but had a very hard time using search function or finding anything and i swear i remember this issue addressed in the past old nm forum.
Thanks for any help. |

| I remember this happening for patches using delay lines with feedback and not having a DC loop filter. There could be other causes, all probably resulting in a (large) DC voltage being present at some stage in the patch - maybe post an example patch if you can't figure it out, it would make it easier for others to help. |

Could someone who downloads this patch try it out and PLEASE let me know if they have the same noise i am getting, so i know it is not a hardware problem?
The noise i am talking about is:
after the patch is loaded, play a note to hear the sound.
Then with no sound playing, turn the main volume knob or the different morph knobs and tell me if you hear a strange data-type noise from just turning the knobs.
Thanks. |

Sorry I'm kind of busy, and couldn't try before.
Yes I can confirm hearing the zippery noises turning the main volume as you described. This is a sound that is not unfamiliar to me and it is caused by something in the patch, although I don't know what it is at the moment. Will try later if I can find something, but need to do some other things 1st and will have to dig up a good midi interface, the one I'm using now just kept the connection open long enough to get the patch into the synth & then it crapped out.
You could try to reduce the amount of amplification, now 64 times, I suspect that to be the problem. |

I just tried the patch and i get the same noise, i have noticed it in the past with high amplification values on the amplifier modules.
And by the way that is a very nice bass, very x-dream-ish bass!
