I don't know if this has ever been showcased on electro-music.com? (it's one good reason for buying a Mac loaded with OSX too!)

http://www.uisoftware.com/MetaSynth/index.html

Metasynth is unique because it's the only synth/ DAW that I know of that allows you to paint with colour and line to create sound. The sounds, although musical (at most times) are truly strange!

Most people here, I imagine, will already know about this unique software- but I know there are a few out there who don't. So here you go folks; Metasynth :)

Coagula and Audiopaint provide similar (but less complete) functionality for PC users.

It's great to stick some pictures into your soundscapes Smile

Artists like Aphex Twin and Venetian Snares are well known abusers of this type of software.

HighC is inspired from Iannis Xenakis' UPIC. Instead of painting, you draw curves to produce the same results. The advantage of drawing is that you can apply the usual draw operations: move and resize, cut/copy/paste, group/ungroup... to manipulate your sounds.

Indeed, HighC is a hobby project.

I'm still trying to get more feedback and getting to see what it is best for. I have tons of features to implement and would appreciate getting to know what is it used for so as to prioritize and see which direction to drive it towards.

So, if you like it, please register and participate to the forum, post examples of use, features or bug requests.

T.

@seraph:

So that you know: I appreciated "septimal klezmer" a lot. HighC lets you create and use non-octave based scales, in case you're interested...

welcome thbb

HighC looks really great. I listened to some of the samples and there are sounds you can get with this software that would be very difficult with other means. I'm going to give it a shot.

I downloaded HighC and tried it out and it looks really cool but I am already overwhelmed by software applications. My main microtonal application, LMSO, can save data in Metasynth format making it easy to paint "microtonal landscapes".
