| I'm curious. Normally I need a lot of time to get away from something i'm working on before I can listen to it without the itch to work on it, and still have a hard time not analyzing it to death. |

I chose occasionally, but in a wide sense, because it fluctuates. In some periods it could be several songs on one day.
Most of the time not for pleasure, but related to some compositional or technical concept on which I'm working on,
or want to analyse again. But there are a few favs which I listen to now and then, to keep up the spirit. _________________ 0.618033988 |

I've got some G2 engines running all the time when I'm at home, I tweak the patches or make new ones when it bores me, I go back to older stuff as well sometimes.
I turn it off occasionally to listen to some stuff posted here or on myspace or when I bought something new. And sometimes I need silence |

Not enough
I have been very bad at making new music in the last year or two...I don't know if it's depression, attention deficit disorder, or just bad habit, but usually I spend about an hour a day playing little tunes and making sounds, but rarely recording or editing. Something just doesn't feel right. |

I used to be in this band and had a boom box with built in mics and would record every practice and me and the guitar player would listen to it. It was like we never listened to anything else, because we were always listening to ourselves. He asked me a few months ago what I had been listening to lately and I replied "Remember when we were in Gothic Playground and..." he remembered and laughed. Another friend of mine also asked the what have you been listening to lately and I said, jokingly, "I only listen to myself." He laughed, but my wife just smiled and shook her head in agreement.
I have everything on my computer at work and when the music is anywhere from 3 minutes to 6 hours, its easy to just put it on. When driving, it's the next best thing to quiet. I mean, why not?
When at home, if I'm not working on something, I just play record albums, and not myself.
So... How often do I listen to my own music for pleasure? On the average, at least 4 hours a day. (If you don't believe in yourself, who will?) _________________ http://www.virb.com/waynehiggins

I chose "All the time". My habit is to make quick, dirty recordings that only rarely get any extra treatment (only if I feel I want to show it to someone) - usually something like 1 or 2 hours from conception to the last click on "save". Then I play it in the morning before going to work, saturday evenings after the party's left (like this exact moment), and lots of other times. I'm outrageously self-satisfied.

Well, I've been concentrating on building music tools rather than making songs in my first 1/2-year of music as hobby, so I don't have many songs. There is one that I like a lot though and I enjoy playing it for myself and others. _________________ "Let's make noise for peace." - Kijjaz |

I chose occasionally.
For the last 3 years or so I've kind of been in the same space as anigbrowl. I put it down to having kids under 4, and the fact that my interest in building my own instruments was suddenly re-awoken about 3-4 years ago. So I've been doing alot of DIY electronics, but not much writing. I've kind of been fairly easy on myself for it though. I figure it's better to do what you're into at the time than sit around worrying about what you haven't done lately. When the inspiration strikes that will be great. It's, all, Right. (In a Buddist kinda way)
I like listening to old recordings every now and then. I sometimes put them on with professionally produced stuff on random shuffle just to break it up a bit and reminisce. I don't get the urge to re-work stuff anymore, so I'm glad I can be quite contented with what's been done. I am aware though that there are some really nice tracks sitting around unfinished which I'd like to polish off some day soon. _________________ What makes a space ours, is what we put there, and what we do there. |

Depends on what you mean by "music" and also by "own" and also by "pleasure". I listen to project ruori stuff that I helped with fairly frequently, esp. sparrow, though my involvement in that particular piece was limited to writing the words.
The stuff I make by myself tends to be mostly unfinished fragments at any given time, and I often listen to stuff in order to get a sense of what it still needs.
Then again, there are a few things that are either done or abandoned, that make me cringe when I hear them. _________________ solo: http://www.myspace.com/skippyvodka

I also chose 'All the time'. My initial impulse to make music was because I couldn't find what I wanted so I had to make it myself. My music is my personal soundtrack and I listen to it almost every time I drive somewhere and I rarely talk about my music or show it to others. So if I don't listen to it nobody does (although technically I have some friends with old stuff which they listen to from time to time)

it depends
generally I only listen to my own stuff occasionally, but when I've just completed a project I listen to it lots, then it goes into the pile with all the other music and only gets listened to when I'm in the mood for it. _________________ Jez

I chose weekly but it all depends on my mood and what I'm doing. Lately it seems, when I wish to listen, I'll head to my personal web site where I've all that I've thought worth keeping and listen to various quantities of tunes - at times in differing genres again, depending on mood.
Not having begun any new compositions for about 3 years now (with a SLIGHT noodle a couple of weeks ago being the first - right after I got my Alesis Micro and MMT- , I'm almost at the point of having enough of my modular built, that I'll finally be able to start composing again.
This evening, I also remembered that it'll be 3 years soon this month, since I got a Farfisa VIP 400 organ or permanent loan from a co-worker that I haven't yet fired up. It's finally, about time to do that and see what pours out of my gear. Lot's lof lyrical ideas in me noggin' as well - can't wait to see what happens. |

And so you should be - your stuff went down very well when I DJed it, got a few inquiries!
I listen to my previous album while I'm mastering the next one. So I don't repeat the same mistakes. Yes, I like to make new mistakes each time. _________________ My music: here! |

Listening to own music Subject description: Often |
 |
|
I listen to my own music often. Between playing, recording and mixing my own work, I listen more to my own work.
In addition, some of my compositions decompose other recordings, and I use my own recordings because I own 'em. So my Duchamp Examinations decomposes my song "If Duchamp Drew Beautifully". My MAX/MSP/Jitter program "Simultaneous Opposites" traverses video I've shot before, and I'm presently translating it into a live performance system where I'm playing over and to the traversing (sound and video) while I control it via MIDI footswitches and guitar.
It's not that I haven't listened to a wide range of music...I'm an older guy, and I think I've listened fairly broadly. But I like to be able to distribute what I produce, and this way there's not question about copyright and ownership. _________________ Robert Edgar

I've always listened to my own music. Since I do a lot of New Age; basically, what could be described as "relaxation" music, I find it a great stress-reducer at work or while driving. In fact, right now, I'm listening to some of my tunes from the nineties!
